it's not soft. it's wool. but it's as warm as a rugged army blanket, and twice as good looking. I'd get another one - just don't expect this to be a fleece. It's waaay better, just takes a little getting used to the wool-on-skin feel.

Some of the reviews mention that the fabric is scratchy at first, which I was expecting with a non-Merino wool jacket. However, right out of the box, it is much less of an issue that I was expecting. It's not Merino soft, but it doesn't bother me at all when I'm wearing it.
On to the other aspects...
Initial impressions are very good. I had my eye out for awhile for a nice mid weight wool jacket to replace a fleece jacket, and finally decided to buy the Vertigo. It turns out, that was an excellent choice- the Vertigo quality is top notch, the fabric is impressive, the fit is just right- allowing room for under layers without being too bulky.

Quality material,excellent cut,and versatile.Yes,the wool is not skin soft like most Ibex stuff,but It will smooth and soften over time.The only change I would make,is to add an internal chest pocket.

I have been hesitating for awhile to buy this jacket, but finally took the plunge and boy, am I glad that I did. Wonderful, lightweight, but very well made(read: excellent craftsmanship!!). Feels true to size. I am 6'2", 175lbs, 34-35" sleeve length and the Large fits me perfectly. Also got the Chrome Blue which is an EXCELLENT color. This is a beautiful jacket that exceeded my expectations.
Is it a bit itchy on bare arms? Yes, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It is not a "relaxed fit", but a good "athletic" fit. It is thinner in material than I was expecting but I like the way it feels-not overly bulky. I think I am going to get another in a different color!!

I purchased a second Vertigo jacket in black during the off-season sale for half price. I love the first jacket so much, and I wanted to have a spare in case Ibex ever discontinues this model. For [$]it's an absolute steal. It is stylish, functional, and comfortable. Sure, loden wool is a little scratchy on the skin, but it doesn't feel itchy to me. I'm a believer in natural fibers.

While the arms are slightly scrathy when first wearing, it gets less so as time goes by. And it feels so very warm and comfortable other than that! Looks GREAT! Fits perfectly on my 5'10" 195lb frame wide shouldered frame. Will get another before long, just to make sure I have one for years to come.

I use this jacket year round in North Carolina. Even after two years of steady wear, it still received compliments from folks with a keen eye. At [$], it is a bit high, but I got mine on sale for around $120 and would pay that again without hesitation.

I bought this for my fiance. It fits him absolutely perfectly - I was worried about size because I read reviews of other products that ran small, but he's a medium in everything and this medium fit him just right. He says it's very warm considering how lightweight; when it's really cold he can layer it under a soft shell.
